This is an enormous antique, early 1900's, French confit pot / storage jar. It is a gorgeous accent piece for a period kitchen / rustic farmhouse. Excellent for displaying kitchen utensils or as a storage jar for walnuts / chestnuts etc. It could be re-purposed as an umbrella stand in a country manor entrance hall!
It dates from the early 1900's. It is handmade and therefore has a charming, slightly uneven, surface texture and rough glaze style.
This pot is in great condition for its 100 year age. It is still perfectly watertight. It is utterly charming, with it's 'dints' and undulations. A truly rustic treasure 'aged to perfection', authentic and original. It has one tiny chip in the rim (please see the last photo) but it in no way detracts from the beauty or functionality of this amazing pot. It has many years of service yet to offer.
Its natural terracotta color makes it the perfect accessory for French provincial interiors.
It is really heavy and weighs 5kgs / 11lbs! It stands 26cms / 10¼" tall, is 22.5cms / 8¾" diameter (at the base) 32cms / 12½" wide to the handles. The opening is 19cms / 7½".
