A very rare and unusual basket from the 1920's, that allows you to carry six bottles of Champagne or wine in style.
A wonderfully practical design, it has six 'dividers' at the bottom, and a 'sliding' level of six bottle top rings, that hold the bottles equidistant and stable, so they don't knock together during transportation. You simply slide the rings up to remove the bottles and then back down to store them.
There are very few of these lovely baskets around now, it really is French Country Living at its best!.
It's a simply stunning basket that would look great sitting in a rustic farmhouse or French country kitchen and would also make a great gift for a keen gardener too, as you could fill it with small plant pots at the bottom and hang gardening tools through the holes.
It stands 39cms/15¼" tall, 29cms/11¼" long and 21cms/8¼"wide.
Empty it weighs 500gms/1.1 lbs.
It is in genuine, vintage condition for its age, It's nearly 100 years old!. It shows some definite signs of 'wear' but is still perfectly usable.
I found it in a flea market in Paris and, at some point in its history, someone has tried to repair some of the 'fraying'' wicker with glue to stop further degradation. The basic structure is still super sturdy, the bottom, sides and handle have all their structural integrity intact. The main damage is to the side sliding bottle top holder and a tiny bit of frayed wicker at the edge of the bottle divider and handle. I have photographed all of this in the last two photos. Please bear this in mind if you decide to buy this beautiful item, as it has been priced to reflect its 'vintage' nature.
