This is a large ceramic boat shaped dish, made by " Emile Henry", from the 1980's.
Glazed white on the inside and blue on the outside, it is beautifully detailed in the exact shape of a fishing boat, flat at the back, with ridges reminiscent of boat timbers running along the sides, to a point at the front.
It measures 31cms/ 12 ¼" long x 16cms/ 6¼" wide x 5cms/ 2" deep. It weighs 1kg/ 2.2 lbs.
In excellent condition, with no chips or cracks. It has the famous Emile Henry "Key" trademark (modèle déposé) on the underside, and is a numbered ceramic "58.00".
Emile Henry has famously made high quality ceramics in Marcigny, Burgundy since 1850.
This boat was originally made for displaying seafood. It is rare and collectible.
I've styled it as a soap dish. It would make a great bathroom planter, in a nautical bathroom/washroom setting. Perfect for storing small, rolled, face towels, candles and soaps. It would make an unusual gift for anyone who loves "sea themed" interior décor.
Perfect for beach huts and holiday homes by the sea.
