This is an absolutely charming boat shaped dish advertising the famous "Plancoët, Eau Minérale" (natural mineral water) from Plancoët , in the French "Côtes-d'Armor". Plancoët springs up at a place called Sassay, in the district of Nazareth, in Plancoët, and the inhabitants of the town can come and use it freely.
Glazed white, with a cobalt blue line at the edge, it is beautifully decorated with delicate flowers, in a style not dissimilar to barge painted bouquets. Exquisitely detailed, with ridges reminiscent of boat timbers, it is flat and the back, rising gently at the front.
It is marked "Quimper, Bretagne" on the base, where it was made.
It measures 20cms/ 7 ¾" long x 13cms/ 5" wide x 6cms/ 2¼" (at its deepest), and weighs 600gms / 1.3 lbs.
In perfect condition, with no chips, scratches or cracks.
I've styled it as a bathroom soap dish, as it would make a great accessory in a nautical bathroom/washroom setting. Perfect for storing candles and soaps. It would make an unusual gift for anyone who loves 'sea themed' interior décor. Perfect for beach huts and holiday homes by the sea.
