
This is a rare and collectible set of six vintage, French, espresso cups and saucers. Classic 1960's French bar/bistro/café décor. Once promotional items for the famous «Bisquit» Cognac producer, these were given to French cafés, in the 1960s, the promoters encouraged bartenders to serve their classic French espressos to customers in them to 'tempt' clients to the brand.
In France, it is not unusual to add alcohol/spirits to your coffee, an old fashion "pick-me-up" at any time of day - even breakfast!
Perfect for serving « French coffee » (coffee + cognac) after dinner. They are a stylishly chic way to impress you dinner guests when you serve your digestif (after dinner drinks). They all carry the famous 'COGNAC Bisquit' logo.
These ceramic cups and saucers are glazed white on the inside, beige/brown on the outside with the «Bisquit» brand printed on both sides of the cups & the saucers.
Each cup measures 6cms/2½" diameter (8.5cms/3¼" to the handle) and is 6cms (2½") high.
Each Saucer measures 12cms/ 4¾" diameter.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
The cups stack neatly on top of each other for ease of storage.
They are really heavy each cup/saucer combo weights 334 grams! (0.7lbs)
Here's a bit of history for you: Founded by Alexandre Bisquit in 1819, the house of 'Bisquit', with its home at the Château de Lignères by the banks of the Charente River, had a long-standing family tradition until the house was sold to Pernod Ricard in 1966. It is said that Bisquit Cognac was among the favourite cognacs of Winston Churchill and King George IV.
